The broadband radiometer has been designed for medical applications. This makes it possible to detect electromagnetic radiation from the human body using a probe directly on the skin of the patient. This radiometer has a sensitivity of 0.01° C and can detect tumors up to 10cm deep. The detection is non-invasive and non-hazardous to the patient since no radiation is emitted as opposed to imaging systems based on X-ray This detection is possible as a tumor generally is more vascularized than the surrounding tissues, therefore hotter. The radiometer can also be used for the treatment of tumors by hyperthermia since it allows to control the heated area by determining the gradient of temperature in three dimensions.
